Harry has nightmares over and over again about a long corridor that he never can get to the end of. This nightmare boggles him through the whole book. When Harry finally gets to leave his house after being attacked by two dementors and using magic illegally by his house, he learns about the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organization, lead by Dumbledore, containing witches and wizards who are against Lord Voldemort. Harry then receives a note saying that he is going to be expelled from Hogwarts, but goes to a trial and is let loose. When Harry goes back to Hogwarts he realizes that Hagrid is gone and there is a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. The new DATDA teacher was assigned duty of teaching by the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge. Harry deals with many problems from this new teacher. He gets many detentions from her which makes him fall behind in his school work, and then eventually she bans him from playing Quidditch ever again. As the new teacher slowly gains more power and authority from the Minister of Magic, she keeps on making most students suffer. Harry also gets in touch with his love life finally. He dates Cho Chang but it turns out that he has a rough time with her and break up. As Harry, Ron, and Hermione try to keep on finding out if Lord Voldemort still exists, the Daily Prophet sends newspapers saying Dumbledor and Harry are lies continuously. Then Harry meets with Sirius to talk with him about his problems and get even more confused. On night, Harry has a nightmare about Ron's dad getting seriously hurt and this saves Ron's dad life because it actually happened. Hermione decides that they should host actually defense against the dark arts lessons so that the students who want to can actually practice the spells rather than read like the new teacher is telling them. After these lessons eventually get caught, Professor Dumbledore says he is the person who is guilty.
